Kentucky Search and Rescue

SAR team deploys on a recovery operation

All-Hazards Response Teams

Kentucky’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams are deployed to help when there is a major disaster in your community.

The USAR teams are comprised of highly trained and organized personnel who can locate, extricate, and medically stabilize victims trapped in urban and rural areas. USAR teams are self-sufficient for up to 72 hours, and include made up of physicians, firefighters, paramedics, structural engineers, and search dogs.

There are two Kentucky Urban Search and Rescue task forces in the state:

  • Kentucky Task Force 1 (KY-TF 1), based in Fayette County
  • Kentucky Task Force 2 (KY-TF 2), based in Muhlenberg County

These teams are managed by the Kentucky Urban Search and Rescue Branch of Kentucky Emergency Management.
