Serving Our Commonwealth
Our mission is to serve the commonwealth. We provide a comprehensive emergency management system in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies to protect the communities of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from disasters and emergencies.
We envision building a Commonwealth that will sustain and improve the capability to successfully mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazard related emergencies and disasters.
Supporting Counties Every Step of the Way
KYEM has 10 Area Managers that serve as the Commonwealth’s primary liaisons with local emergency managers. They work with local officials to provide technical guidance, emergency planning support, response coordination, and help to ensure that state and federal resources reach communities quickly and effectively.
Emergency Management Starts Local
County Emergency Managers are the frontline coordinators for disaster preparedness, response and recovery in their communities. They work year-round to develop emergency plans, manage local resources, and coordinate with police, fire, EMS and volunteer organizations. During disasters, they serve as the central point of contact for the county working closely with KYEM and FEMA to ensure timely support and effective response.
