Course Description

This course helps participants establish the essential core competencies required for performing the duties of the Safety Officer in an all-hazards incident. This course is designed to provide local and state-level emergency responders with a robust understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective SOFR on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team. These responsibilities are responding to the incident, and the safety needs of the incident; and effectively fulfilling the position responsibilities of a Safety Officer on an All-Hazards IMT. Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable students to process and apply their new knowledge.

Student Criteria

  This course is open to all Emergency Management, Rescue, Fire, Emergency Medical, and Law

Enforcement personnel or other organizations have responsibility for incident management. Pre-requisites include ICS 300, ICS 400, IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 certificates. G191 and O305 are recommended. Copies of these course completion certificates must be provided before the class to the POC listed below.

Special Notes

A MINIMUM of fifteen (15) advance student registrations is REQUIRED and must be received by September 7, 2026. A MAXIMUM of twenty-five (30) will be accepted. You are considered accepted as a student in this class upon receipt of your application. Letters of acceptance will not be sent. Meals, lodging, and travel expenses are the responsibility of the student and will NOT be reimbursed by KYEM. The materials in this course will be delivered in digital format. A copy of the manual will be emailed to you prior to the start of the class.
