Course Description

The HazMatIQ Above the Line/Below the Line System is a patented program developed by experienced hazardous materials responders, taught in straight forward, easy to understand methodology. By the use of simplifies flow charts, personnel are able to safely and efficiently respond to any known or unknown chemical or mixture. Students will be trained to size-up (physical state, hazards, initial hoot zone, correct meters and PPE) any chemical in virtually seconds. The system then coaches personnel through a streamlined chemical research method to verify their initial size-up, preparing them to immediately go to work when they arrive on a Hazardous materials/WMD event. The HazMatIQ 4-step system consist of: Revolutionary 10 – second “Above the line – Below the line” chemical size up, streamlined chemical research process, Choose the appropriate meters and protective equipment and operate safely in the hot zone based on mission.

 

Student Criteria:

This course is open to all Emergency Management, Rescue, Environmental Response, Public Health, Fire, Emergency Medical, Law Enforcement personnel or any organization having responsibility for responding to a hazardous materials incident. HazMat Awareness and Operations class would be beneficial to the student.

 

Special Notes:

Advance student registration is REQUIRED and must be received by April 15th, 2026 to participate in this course. MAXIMUM number of students seats are 30. Meals Lodging, and travel arrangements/expenses are the responsibility of the student and will not be reimbursed by KYEM unless otherwise noted.
