Course Description

Explore the intricacies of lithium-ion battery incidents with BatteryIQ - a comprehensive training program designed for a range of scenarios from cellphones and electric scooters/bikes to electric vehicle fires and energy storage system failures. This course equips students with a simplified yet effective system to comprehend, identify, respond to, and mitigate lithium-ion battery emergencies. Hands-On Learning: This afternoon session delves into practical, hands-on learning. Witness demonstrations of battery failures resulting from physical damage or overcharging. Engage with recommended Li-ION response equipment, including Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC) and pH/F paper, to monitor battery failures. Gain valuable skills in dismantling battery packs and conclude the hands-on segment by learning the safe procedures for over packing batteries through various methods.

 

Student Criteria:

This course is open to all Emergency Management, Rescue, Environmental Response, Public Health, Fire, Emergency Medical, Law Enforcement personnel or any organization having responsibility for responding to a hazardous materials incident. HazMat Awareness and Operations class would be beneficial to the student.

 

Special Notes:

Advance student registration is REQUIRED and must be received by April 9, 2026, in order to participate in this course. MAXIMUM # of student seats are 30. Meals Lodging, and travel arrangements/expenses are the responsibility of the student and will not be reimbursed by KYEM unless otherwise noted.
