The Kentucky Search and Rescue (SAR) Program is governed by Kentucky Revised Statutes Chapter 39F and its accompanying regulations KAR 106. The SAR Program is also a support function to the counties, local rescue squads and other emergency services organizations who perform search, rescue and recovery operations for lost, missing and overdue persons. Training courses, Basic Search and Rescue and Managing Search Operations, are offered several times a year, free of charge. Grants are offered each year to eligible rescue squads and specialty rescue teams for purchasing minimum equipment required in Chapter 39F and for optional rescue equipment.
